Getting a good foundation colour match for your skin tone and then choosing a amount of coverage (sheer/medium/full) you are happy with goes a long way to creating the perfect look and I honestly find that once I have the skin, the 'basis' of a beautiful makeup spot-on then I only have to use minimal colour elsewhere. Keep in mind that although you may feel your 'natural day makeup' looks heavy but trust your makeup artist as a 'natural' makeup for photography purposes has to be a bit heavier than what you would wear day to day. This is because the camera flash, harsh daylight and room lighting drain SO much colour out of your skin.
